I have a new book. I’m surprised that there aren’t a lot of books dealing with climate change. The most obvious answer, to me, is to garden in the shade where, for example, less water is needed for irrigation since temperatures are ten to twenty degrees cooler; there is little to no lawn; and we plant trees that absorb and hold CO2 – the primary greenhouse gas.
From the press release:
The New Shade Garden is a comprehensive guide for a new generation of gardeners who are planting gardens not only for their beauty but also for their positive impact on the environment. Detailing all aspects of the gardening process, the book covers a wide range of topics such as designing your own garden, choosing and planting trees, preparing soil for planting, solving the deer problem, and the vast array of flowers and foliage that grow best in the shade. Druse walks the reader through every step, sharing personal anecdotes and plant lore and offering advice on how to respond effectively to our changing climate, shrinking resources, and challenging new weather patterns.
Discover with Druse what he has learned in his many years of gardening with nature: Creating your own lush oasis is the best defense against our changing world. Filled with guidance, horticultural facts, useful plant recommendations, and 400 gorgeous photos, The New Shade Garden is sure to become a favorite resource in the library of every garden, plant, and nature lover.
