I’m pleased to present some of my favorite plants for different parts of the garden. There are shade plants, flowering perennials, shrubs, trees and even some indoor and tropical species and varieties. Those last categories may be some of what I call my “weird but lovable” pets. The photo above is of the easy-to-grow double bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis ‘Multiplex’), a spring ephemeral that blooms mid-spring. The blossoms of the single-flowered species do not last very long — just a couple of days. But the double ones may last for more than a week (if the weather stays cool and wind is kind).
