Debra Lee Baldwin gardens on a half acre in the foothills of Southern CA, where temperatures range from below
freezing to 110 degrees F. In 2007, her book, Designing with Succulents came out and spent 19 weeks on Amazon's list of the
Top Ten Bestselling Gardening Books. The sequel Succulent Container Gardens (2010) also topped the charts. Her latest book, Succulents Simplified: Growing, Designing and Crafting with 100 Easy-Care Varieties, has just been published.
I have to admit, I was a bit late to come to Debra’s books. What could there be for me in a book about plants that grow in the Southwest and Western states? And, when I mention the books to other northern gardeners, they say the same thing – until we look inside this book that is filled with incredible designs for container plantings, like plants in frames, bowls, baskets pumpkins, she even glues little succulents onto spheres of moss and twigs — all shown in fantastic photographs.
Now, we’ve all been bitten by the succulent bug. Debra Lee Baldwin is in the right place at the right time.
Debra and I talk about growing succulent plants in the Southwest, and also in cold climates – outdoors and in.
