It is easy to tell that our guest this week, Terry Lea, is a real gardener like you and me, only she runs one of the top garden sites on the web.
There are hundreds of gardening blogs and websites – perhaps thousands. A few stand out. One is a place where people complain and call out companies for unscrupulous practices. Another chronicles the personal journey of an author/gardener with plenty of practical advice.
Perhaps the best site where experience, plant performance and reviews of mail-order nurseries are gathered and shared by real gardener/members is one of the oldest: Dave’s Garden.
Terry is the administrator, managing editor and editor-in-chief of Dave’s Garden. Besides gardening on a 1.5-acre property in Tennessee, where she lives with her family, she is also the administrator of “Garden Watchdog, the Guide to Gardening by Mail, Mail Order Gardening, and Catalogs,” which rates suppliers and features an updated Top 30 list.
At plant files, you can read ratings of plants — how a certain tree performed for one member, or what the best spring-flowering bulb for warm climates might be. In addition to “plant files,” one can visit “bird files, bug files, bloom of the day photos” and the new “Garden Showcase,” where members post tours of their own creations.
