What's new, what's hot? Little gardens under glass are making a big comeback.
Ken speaks with Connecticut garden expert and author of "The New
Terrarium," Tovah Martin, who tells usabout decorating bell jars,
cloches, recycled aquariums, and other containers with orchids,
carnivorous plants, moss and more.
I've
been trying my hand at making terrariums, as well. One small glass
container (left) is home to a single carnivorous butterwort, Pinguicula spp.
The other is an experiment with an 18-inch-tall apothecary jar? I
sculpted an artificial chunk of coral out of a new water-based product
called Aqua Resin from The Compleat Sculptor art supplies.
I applied Aqua Resin to an aluminum wire mesh form. The faux coral is
hollow with planting holes, and after filling it with moistened medium,
I put in little plants — wet-loving at the bottom — less so at the top. I hope the little plants thrive.
