Ken talks about direct-sowing vegetable seeds in the soil. At this time in the season, we should think about planting seeds outdoors, as opposed to indoors. Cool season veggies like turnips, radishes, beets and the like can be sown any day now in colder zones. In the second segment, we visit by phone with Bill Mills, a frequent contributor to the show. Bill is the manager and landscape designer for TerraSalis (salt of the earth) Garden Centers, located around Charleston, West Virginia.
How's the weather down in the "Semi-South?"
Bill will tell us, and he also shares some of his recommendations for vegetables to direct-sow in his climate. Ken discovers that Charleston, WV is one month ahead of his USDA Zone 6 New Jersey garden.
