Did you now that wild rice is not really rice, but grains of a grass? This very nutritious, native food is higher in protein than wheat and loaded with other nutrients as well.
Be advised, however, that much of the "wild rice" on market shelves is actually a product from cultivated fields in California and definitly not the same grain. To make sure you are purchasing the real thing, look for the words "Lake Harvested" or "hand harvested."
You can read more about wild rice, and how purchasing it will help a centuries old native harvest "industry" thrive, at Christmas Point Wild Rice Company’s web site and Native Harvest.com
